Category-specific rules and regulations

By enrolling in the ADK Virtual Arts Festival, the participant agrees to all the rules and regulations of the ADK Virtual Arts Festival.

 

Please note that all items are the participant’s own choice.No item may be presented more than once.

 

Entry fee per item: R50

 

The section/ category code and item number must be correct, otherwise the participant will not be judged. Time allowed per item: 2 minutes maximum.


Application forms must be filled out completely.

 

A maximum amount of 1 000 entries per dance, drama or music section will be accepted for the Festival.

 

Participants take part in the age group according to the 2020 school year in which the participant is currently in.

 

There is no limit to how many items a participant enters, provided that the participant does not enter the same category twice.

 

Copyright should always be respected and if a published work or a published piece of music is used, the writer or composer must be credited and the name must be mentioned at the end of the video. At the dance section a copy of SAMRO’s licence for the music must be provided.

 

Participants may not participate in more than one age category in the same department section.

 

Adjudicators are not allowed to judge their own students, children or family.

 

The adjudicator’s decision is final, and NO COMMENTS, DISCUSSIONS OR CORRESPONDENCE WITH ADJUDICATORS WILL BE ALLOWED.

 

All specifications regarding the videos must be followed exactly, and the videos that do not meet the requirements of each category will not be judged. There will be one video standard maintained throughout each category.

 

Your entry, payment and the upload of the video should be done simultaneously. If all three are not done at the same time, your entry will not be accepted


Ensure that the name and surname of the participant is spelled correctly as certificates will be issued accordingly. No changes will be made afterwards.

Video Guidelines:

  • A professional recording is not required.
  • The position of the camera should represent the eyes of the adjudicator.
  • Do not zoom in or out with the camera.
  • No editing of the recorded footage is allowed.
  • Make use of a neutral or plain background.
  • There should be contrast between the performer and the background, e.g. Do not wear black if the backdrop/background is black.
  • Lighting: Ensure there is sufficient light while recording a performance. Light should come from the front, and not from the back of the performer. e.g. Do not record in front of a window, with the light coming from behind.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR DANCE SECTION
All general rules will apply with addition to the following:
1. Only one item per child in each category allowed.
2. Age category will be determined according to age on 1 June. A average age to be calculated
for groups.
3. Entries received after 24:00 on the cut of date will be rejected.
4. A maximum of 1000 entries for 2020 allowed.
5. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be allowed.
6. Certificates will be emailed to affiliated individual/teacher who will pass it on to students.
7. Time limit for groups – 2 minutes and solos 1:40. (5 extra seconds will be allowed for music
cuts)
8. No dances from Societies or Dance institutions allowed. These have copyright.
9. Please upload SAMRO licence.
10. Dancers must use a minimum of 5 x 5 meter floor space for their dance.
Video Guidelines:
 All dancers must be seen at all times (legs arms and feet on the screen/recording at all
times)
11. A professional recording is not required, but quality of recording should be of good quality.
Judges needs to be able to see facial expression/details on costumes etc.
 No indecent costumes/movements or lyrics allowed – such items will be disqualified
 The position of the camera should represent the eyes of the adjudicator.
 Do not zoom in or out with the camera.
 No editing of the recorded footage is allowed.
 Make use of a neutral or plain background.
 There should be contrast between the performer and the background, e.g. Do not wear

DICIPLINES FOR THE DANCE SECTION 2020

1. CLASSICAL BALLET – Dances that use classical ballet technique
2. BALLET – Demi-character - Ballet technique but also depicting a character
3. Contemporary/Modern – May include modern, ballet and lyrical styles.
4. HIP-HOP – Hip hop or street dance
5. LYRICAL – May include ballet and modern technique. Lyrical and musical content
must be portrayed in the dance.

6. OPEN – Any dance not covered in the above sections
7. SET DANCE – set studio solo ( only till age group 12)- Any Style
8. OWN CHOREOGRAPHY – participant's own choreography (this needs to be in one of the
above categories).
