My children, 15-year-old twins, only joined the ADK in April 2018. This was their very first acquaintance with drama as they were getting homeschooling. Michelle taught them so much in this short time. They are both very shy, withdrawn children. Michelle quickly made them climb out of their shell and assured them they had nothing to fear. With their first drama exam, I was shocked when I could hear them outside the hall's closed door! I could not believe it was my children who were so loud and fearless on stage. What I think the nice thing about the ADK is that they take you in small groups. I would highly recommend Michelle and ADK! My kids can't wait for this year's classes to start!
The ADK is more than just an academy of drama arts, it's a family, a family of which anyone can be a part. Short, long, old or young are welcome and are accepted in the fullness of who they are. I have been fortunate enough to be part of the family for four years. The ADK helped me build confidence and feel comfortable in my own skin. This is something I look forward to every week, a chance to climb out of the real world, into a new imaginary one. Classes are full of fun, laughter, talking and being very dramatic. I am so thankful for the ADK and my drama teacher. I highly recommend it. If one feels you are strange and different, the ADK is the place to be.
Ivan enrolled in January 2019 to take drama class at the ADK. He literally can't wait for his weekly hour-long "lesson"! The environment that Franciska and her co-coaches create is one that is characterized by space for free play, creative storytelling, and imaginative improvisation - both individually and in groups. The coaches' facilitation of active "doing" with the drama children thus embodies a classical theory of learning that advocates that experiential learning is a form of learning that is enjoyable, effortless, boundless, social and permanent. And what child would not want to learn like that now? 🙂
